Dave and I travelled on Route 46 east to Route 21 south figguring neither of us really explored Route 21. This brought us right along side the Passaic River. Out of the corner of his eye Dave saw a big black sign and excalimed "Diner! Did you see it? It's accross the river. How do we get there?"

"We have to find a bridge" I said (well duh). We took the next exit we could find that led us to a bridge and we found ourselves face to face with the Arlington Diner. I felt kinda guilty here. We visited the Arlington on that Christmas trip I never wrote up. I mentioned this to Dave. He remembered this "Oh yeah, that was the place the served us the really good cheesecake". So, we got back into the truck and headed down the road in search of the black diner sign - although I already knew what it was.

We drove up Riverside Ave to the Lyndhurst Diner where we found the big black sign Dave saw. Before we went in, Dave and I decided to stock up on supplies. Mostly we needed paper to write our trip down as we were decidedly low tech still. After making our purchase at the local Exxon station I went back to the car to get our decidedly high tech and very expensive digital camera. I then proceded to drop our decidedly high tech and very expensive digital camera. Crap. Its okay though, nothing broke. But Dave decided that I was not gonna be holding the camera for pretty much the rest of my life as it was worth more than I was.

The Lyndhurst Diner was packed. It always is. The waitress was pissy and seemed to want us out quickly to accomodate more customers. We weren't given water. The coffee was funny colored. And yet there was a line to get into the place. Why do so many people flock to a place like this? Because the food is really really good!

One of the customers explained that there was a huge soccer tournament today just down the road and whenever there is one everybody eats at the Lyndhurst. Dave and I, having just eaten, only had the cheesecake. Something about him mentioning it at the Arlington Diner put us in the mood for it. We left them our card

What does cheese say when you take a picture of it?
